What The Bulls Got Wrong Before Reddit Fell 55%
Share
Listen to the news

Reddit just cleared a major milestone with confirmation it will join the S&P 500, capping a year crowded with booming ad headlines, AI partnerships, and sharp competition from Meta’s Forum app. Investors who held Reddit over the past year are down 55.2%, including dividends. If you had bought after the bullish October 2025 forecasts or sided with the more cautious regulatory view, how should this gap between upbeat news and weak shareholder outcome reshape expectations for what comes next?

Reddit has already moved. See which of 36 high quality undervalued stocks still trade below our estimates.

The Two Reddit Stories Investors Were Weighing

The shares cost US$194 at the start of the period, with bulls and bears reading the same Reddit headlines in very different ways.

The optimistic narrative saw user content and global reach lifting earnings power. That view pointed to a Fair Value of US$219, a price those assumptions implied, based on revenue growth of 33.6% and profit margins reaching 28.4% in three years.

The cautious story focused on regulation and ad pressure. It tagged Fair Value at US$129, hinging on concerns that rising compliance costs and tighter rules on data monetization would squeeze profitability.

What The Reddit Evidence Actually Showed

Reddit’s later filings showed revenue of US$584.9 million in Q3 2025 and US$895.0 million in Q3 2026, with net income rising from US$162.7 million to US$283.3 million and net margin improving from 27.8% to 31.7%. That profitability progress supported a stronger view of earnings power, although it did not address the bear case around regulation and long-term ad dependence, so the evidence pointed in both directions.

The key assumption investors can draw from Reddit is margin durability. When you evaluate another high-growth platform, check whether net income and net margin move together with the revenue line over several reports, not just whether sales rise.

What Reddit's Current Price Already Implies

Reddit trades at US$91.73 today, after a one year return that fell 55.2%. The selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits above the current price, framed as a discount that needs explaining rather than a signal on its own.

That argument leans on strong recent execution and a cash rich balance sheet. For the Narrative’s higher figure to be reached, a buyer would need confidence that Reddit’s reported growth and margins can continue without being undermined by traffic or licensing shocks.

"Q2 2026 revenue hit $805M, up 61% year-over-year, the eighth consecutive quarter of 60%+ growth. EPS of $1.25 beat consensus by roughly 30%."

That disagreement has a full argument behind it. → Uncover the higher Fair Value this Narrative argues for
