Listen to the news

Opendoor Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:OPEN) stock is surging on Monday as short-term positioning takes place ahead of its upcoming third-quarter earnings report, alongside a broader relief rally across the stock market.

The move follows a recent drop to a 52-week low near $1.83, prompting a technical bounce as market participants re-engage with volatile growth names.

Market Dynamics

Broader equity indexes are supporting the advance, with the Nasdaq rising 1.11% and the S&P 500 adding 0.92%. The real estate sector, represented by the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLRE), is trading 0.53% higher, ranking eighth among the 11 S&P 500 sectors.

The Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund has gained 6.38% over the past 30 days, though it remains down 4.22% over the trailing 90 days.

Earnings Ahead

Opendoor Technologies will report financial results on Thursday. Consensus estimates forecast a loss of 15 cents per share, compared to an 8-cent loss a year earlier, with revenue projected at $1.07 billion.

Analyst Sentiment

Analyst sentiment remains cautious, with three of 10 analysts rating the stock a Sell, four assigning a Hold, two recommending Buy and one issuing a Strong Buy, resulting in an overall Underperform consensus. The average price forecast stands at $3, implying 60.5% upside.

However, recent analyst actions reflect continued concerns, with UBS cutting its price target from $5 to $2 on Wednesday while maintaining a Neutral rating. Earlier, JPMorgan lowered its forecast from $8 to $7 on Sept. 11, maintaining an Overweight rating.

Technical Analysis

From a trend perspective, the longer-term picture remains bearish: OPEN is trading 5.4% below its 20-day SMA ($2.06), 22.9% below its 50-day SMA ($2.52), and more than 50% below its 200-day SMA ($4.19). The 20-day SMA sitting below the 50-day SMA keeps the near-term structure heavy, and the death cross that formed in March (50-day below the 200-day) reinforces that the primary trend has been down.

  • Key Resistance: $2.06
  • Key Support: $1.83

OPEN Price Action: Opendoor Technologies shares were up 5.56% at $1.90 at the time of publication on Monday. The stock is trading near its 52-week low of $1.83, according to Benzinga Pro data.
