The Bismarck, North Dakota-based company said it had profit of $2.43 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.59 per share.

The construction materials company posted revenue of $1.28 billion in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.29 billion.

Knife River expects full-year revenue in the range of $3.38 billion to $3.43 billion.
