Share
Listen to the news

Bakkafrost hit the market today with a Q3 2026 rebound that looked stronger than the share price suggests. The stock closed at NOK426.20, with the past week down about 8.5% and the last three months softer as well, even as quarterly net income reached DKK190.4m and basic earnings per share came in at DKK3.21.

In the short term, traders are still treating this salmon farmer as a problem child. Over the trailing twelve months the company has produced DKK931.4m in underlying profit and carries a valuation that many models flag as materially discounted.

Bakkafrost bull case: integration finally earning its keep

Supporters argue that Bakkafrost’s integrated model and smolt plan should translate into sturdier earnings, even when salmon markets get tricky.

"Analysts expect Bakkafrost to continue using its integrated value chain and larger smolt program to support earnings quality through cost discipline and more controlled growth in harvested volumes."

Q3 results give this view some footing. Operational EBIT rose sharply to DKK128m on flat revenue, which points to cost work rather than price tailwinds. Havsbrun’s feed and fishmeal business delivered much higher EBIT, helped by earlier low cost inventories. Faroes farming stayed profitable despite lower harvest volumes and CMS issues, suggesting the smolt and feed initiatives are starting to support margins, even if not yet consistently.

Bakkafrost bear case: Scotland and capex risk far from cleared

On the flip side, critics point to Scotland and project timing as the pressure points that could blunt any recovery in group profitability.

"The DKK 5b investment program to lift harvest volumes to 145,000 tonnes in 2028 and 162,000 tonnes in 2030 is reaffirmed despite some project delays and with Applecross still at about 35% capacity utilization and reporting a DKK 30 million loss in Q2 2026."

Q3 confirms Scotland is still an earnings drag. The region remains loss making, with low harvest weights and weak volumes pushing up unit costs. Applecross smolt output grew strongly and losses narrowed, yet the segment is still tracking a group EBIT drag of about DKK340m year to date, so the volume led upside case remains dependent on several tough execution steps landing on time.

Hunt For Quiet Value Stories

P/F Bakkafrost just reported an earnings rebound alongside a softer share price. The real opportunity could be in finding potentially undervalued stocks before wider market attention arrives.

  • Company 2 - 35% below our estimate - develops new housing and industrial clusters as project approvals progress and launch pipelines convert into booked presales and extended development contracts.
  • Company 3 - 29% below our estimate - shifts its mix toward higher margin composite and clean energy products as added capacity and automation begin influencing customer orders and product volumes.

That is three of the list. See the full list of 195 companies trading below our fair value estimates →
