On a per-share basis, the Irving, Texas-based company said it had profit of $10.44. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $11.68 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $10.69 per share.

The prescription drug distributor posted revenue of $110.96 billion in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $110.11 billion.

McKesson expects full-year earnings in the range of $45.60 to $46.40 per share.
