Advanced Micro Devices came into Q3 with a red hot reputation as the pure play on artificial intelligence chips, yet the stock had slipped over the past month and week. After the report hit on 4 November, the shares barely budged, up about 1% around US$488, even as the headline numbers landed with force. Revenue for the quarter reached US$13.4b and non GAAP earnings per share climbed to US$2.09, driven by a powerful surge in data center demand that now dominates the story.

AMD says data center could be over 80% of revenue by 2027. Ask Charlie what makes AMD so sure about 2027.
"A key factor is for AMD to continue executing on large multi-gigawatt deployments with partners such as OpenAI, Meta and Anthropic, while ramping Venice server CPUs in line with management’s stated plans and keeping supply, software and ecosystem support aligned."
That ambition meets real but early proof points. AMD’s data center revenue reached US$8.5b in Q3 and now makes up 64% of the business, with record EPYC and Instinct shipments and Helios racks contributing. Management highlighted expanded commitments from hyperscalers and frontier labs plus stronger 2027 visibility. At the same time, demand still exceeds available capacity and client and gaming weakness underlines how much this moat depends on keeping those large AI deployments on schedule.

The cautious view argues that AMD’s AI push might not translate into clean, high margin earnings if racks dilute profitability and non AI lines sag.
"The main thing that has to go right for AMD is that its push into full-stack Helios rack-scale AI systems, MI450 accelerators, and ROCm.ai software translates the currently supply constrained data center demand into sustained, high quality profit growth."
Q3 delivered record non GAAP EPS of US$2.09 and higher trailing net margin, so quality of earnings is not breaking. Yet the picture is mixed. Gaming dropped 40% and Client and Gaming guidance points lower again, which is the kind of cyclicality bears have highlighted. Supply also remains constrained, so the Helios and MI450 thesis still depends on future capacity execution rather than fully de risked throughput today.
Advanced Micro Devices recently highlighted how earnings momentum and share price reactions can diverge. The real opportunity is assessing stocks that could be undervalued before the market potentially adjusts their pricing.
