The Williamsville, New York-based company said it had profit of $1.02 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.22 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.15 per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $467.8 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $536.1 million.

National Fuel Gas expects full-year earnings in the range of $6 to $6.40 per share.
