Daqo New Energy spent this past year in the headlines for a very different reason than polysilicon alone, committing around RMB 6b to an AI data center energy solutions base and pushing into energy storage, transformers, and batteries. For Daqo New Energy shareholders, the loss over the past year was 61.2%, including dividends. If you had bought just before that pivot into AI infrastructure, how should you now judge the move away from a pure polysilicon story?
Narratives are how investors here put a case on the record, with explicit assumptions about revenue, margins and the multiple. Those assumptions imply an estimated Fair Value.
Daqo New Energy is not the only name tied to this theme. Zero in on 53 AI infrastructure stocks and compare how each one is priced.
The shares cost US$31.03 at the start of the period, so anyone looking at Daqo New Energy had to decide which future seemed more reasonable.
The bullish Narrative argued for a Fair Value of US$37. It leaned on an assumption that revenue could grow 76.9% a year with profit margins improving to 13.6%, supported by heavy investment in N-type technology and a large cash position.
The more cautious Narrative put Fair Value at US$26.58. That view still assumed 57.5% annual revenue growth and a 9.2% margin, but put much more weight on the risk that prolonged polysilicon overcapacity could keep prices and profitability under pressure.
The AI data center energy project, with around RMB 6b of planned spending, supported the diversification angle in the bullish case. The measured results pointed in the opposite direction. Revenue fell from US$244.601m in Q3 2025 to US$194.153m in Q3 2026, while the business reported a deeper net loss and net margin declined from a 6.1% loss to a 27.2% loss. Overall, the cautious case on profitability found more support.
The key assumption investors needed to test was that Daqo New Energy could return to double digit positive margins quickly. When revenue and net income both fall, and the net margin moves further into loss, that margin is the first figure to recheck at any other company built on a rapid recovery story.
Today Daqo New Energy trades at US$11.88, and the selected bullish Narrative places its Fair Value above that level based on its own assumptions.
The argument leans on policy support, N-type polysilicon progress and cost control. A buyer now would need to believe that policy-driven price discipline and cost cuts can outweigh oversupply and recurring losses.
"Recent regulatory interventions by Chinese authorities to curb irrational competition and enforce sales above production costs are expected to stabilize polysilicon prices and improve industry profitability, directly supporting future revenue and margins for Daqo. Global momentum in solar installations, driven by policy incentives and the increasing cost-competitiveness of solar power, remains robust and positions Daqo to benefit from sustained long-term demand growth. This, in turn, supports a recovery in sales volumes and top-line growth once market conditions normalize."
