04:25 AM EST, 11/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Italy's antitrust regulator has largely accepted Intesa Sanpaolo's (ISP.MI) proposed competition measures for its planned takeover of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.MI), or MPS, but required additional conditions, la Repubblica reported Friday. Sources told the Italian daily newspaper that Intesa will still need to sell a few dozen more branches, in addition to the units it committed to sell to Unipol (UNI.MI). The regulator also approved the Italian lender's proposal to sell a 3% stake in Generali (G.MI), while retaining a 13.3% stake in the insurer. A final regulatory approval is expected before Intesa launches its tender offer for MPS on Nov. 23 or Nov. 24, the report added. Intesa did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
